Review of The Truth About Lord Stoneville (Hellions of Halstead Hall #1)

The Truth About Lord Stoneville (Hellions of Halstead Hall #1)
Amazon            Barnes & Noble
by Sabrina Jeffries
4.5 of 5 Stars

Description:

They're the scandalous Sharpes, five hell-raising siblings tainted by a shocking family legacy. Now each faces a daunting ultimatum: marry by year's end—or kiss their inheritance good-bye.

In the two decades since a tragic "accident" took the lives of his parents, Oliver Sharpe, the Marquess of Stoneville, has survived the scandal surrounding that fateful night by living as an unrepentant rakehell. And with his grandmother vowing to disinherit him if he doesn't settle down and wed, he plans to fulfill the bargain in true Sharpe style—by bringing home a fake fiancee from a brothel! But his scheme is derailed when he rescues an American beauty in a dire predicament instead.

Maria Butterfield came to London to track down her groom-to-be, who's gone missing, but her engagement won't stop Oliver from getting what he wants: her, in his bed. His rebellious masquerade may call his grandmother's bluff, but it's soon made all too real—by a love that tempts him to be a hellion no more.

Review:

Having read book two before, my hopes were high for book one and I was not disappointed.
This is a wonderful beginning to a historical romance series.

Hmm...fun facts...

2. I love cooking and inventing new pasta dishes - I'm Italian, what can I say?

3. I'm obsessed with shoes and purses - something a got from my mom.

4. I walked down the ails at my wedding to the Godfather Love Song (and my husband wore my grandfathers fedora. Like I said, I'm a Italian...shrug)

5. And for my last fact, I do pole dancing for fitness & fun - it is the best workout ever!

Now, what are your fun facts?

Nook $2.99
Fire Burn and Cauldron Bubble (Jolie Wilkins #1)
by H.P. Mallory
3.5 of 5 Stars

Description:
Life isn't bad for psychic Jolie Wilkins. True, she doesn't have a love life to speak of, but she has a cute house in the suburbs of Los Angeles, a cat and a quirky best friend.

Rand hires her to help him solve a mystery regarding the death of his client who also happens to be a ghost. Jolie not only uncovers the cause of the ghost's demise but, in the process, she brings him back to life!
Word of Jolie’s incredible ability to bring back the dead spreads like wildfire, putting her at the top of the underworld’s most wanted list. Consequently, she finds herself at the center of a custody battle between a villainous witch, a dangerous but oh-so-sexy vampire, and her warlock boss, Rand.

Review:

Jolie Wilkins is a witch...but she doesn't know it, at least not yet.
Rand is a powerful and handsome warlock who is interested in seeing just kind of power Jolie has.

How to Woo a Reluctant Lady (Hellions of Halstead Hall #2)
by Sabrina Jeffries
 Description:
The third novel in Sabrina Jeffries's “Hellions of Hallstead Hall” series, featuring the independent and talented Lady Minerva Sharpe.

When a charming rogue proposes she marry him to meet her grandmother's ultimatum, the Sharpe clan's strong-willed sister makes a tempting counter-offer that preserves her inheritance and ignites his imagination.

Lady Minerva Sharpe has the perfect plan to thwart her grandmother's demands: become engaged to a rogue! Surely Gran would rather release her inheritance than see her wed a scoundrel. And who better to play the part of Minerva's would-be husband than wild barrister Giles Masters, the very inspiration for the handsome spy in the popular Gothic novels she writes? The memory of his passionate kiss on her nineteenth birthday has lingered in Minerva's imagination, though she has no intention of really falling for such a rakehell, much less marrying him. Little does she know, he really is a covert government operative. When they team up to investigate the mystery behind her parents' deaths, their fake betrothal leads to red-hot desire. Then Minerva discovers Giles's secret double life, and he must use all the cunning tricks of his trade to find his way back into her heart. (From Goodreads)

~ I have read the first two of the Hellions of Halstead Hall and really enjoyed them. If you are interested in regency-historical romance, you should check out this series.~

Review of Be Still My Heart (Vampire Assassin League #2)

Be Still My Heart (Vampire Assassin League #2)
by Jackie Ivie
Barnes & Noble       Amazon
4 of 5 Stars

Description:

THE VAMP
Vampire Sasha Stroyanovich is pure killing machine. Long-legged, lean, smoky-eyed, and sexy. Torture's her specialty. Revenge her signature. Every man is her enemy… until she tries to take the man fated as her mate.
THE MARK
Dr. Stuart Emerson Findlay is tall, dark, handsome, rich… and a complete failure with women. He loves argument, hates commitment and refuses his ADHD meds; anal retentive doesn't begin to describe him. Maybe that's why women walk away. Maybe.
THE DREAM
When the perfect woman walks into his office, Stuart's a willing participant. It's his dream and he's having the time of his life. Until it becomes real…
(From Goodreads)

Review:

After reading the first book I was intrigued and had to find out what this series was all about. I was not disappointed. I enjoyed Be Still My Heart more than Knight After Night (the first book).
The main characters: Sasha Stroyanovich and Dr. Stuart Emerson Findlay. They were delightful!

Review of Knight After Night (Vampire Assassin League #1)

Knight After Night (Vampire Assassin League #1)
by Jackie Ivie
3.5 of 5 Stars

Description:

THE VAMPIRE
Highland Vampire Thoran MacKettryck's lonely. Bitter. Vengeful. For centuries now, he's taken lives for profit and drained blood for free. Just like always. But then he's gifted what every immortal craves: his mate. He just can't believe his eyes when he finally hunts her down.
HIS MATE
Jolie Pritchard's young. Studious. Driven. Studying Medieval Literature is her life and this scholarship - her dream. She's the last thing an arrogant, gorgeous, world-class playboy should be pursuing and she knows it. If only he wasn't the most thrilling male she's ever imagined...
THE CURSE
She was warned. She didn't listen.

Review:

This was an entertaining read. The beginning really caught me, the library scene where/when the main characters meet was fun, lighthearted, and I must say, I quickly fell for Thoran.

18 and Over Blogger Follow Hop is hosted by Crystal from Reading Between the Wines. This hop runs through the weekend. Have a blog that reviews and features mainly 18+ books and want to join? Head over to Reading Between the Wines.

Question of the week: Do you have a formula or outline that you follow while writing reviews?

I wouldn't say I have a formula or an outline for writing my reviews. I keep my reviews short, not wanting to give too much away. Generally, I say what I like and don't like about the main characters, address the plot, relationship between the characters, and world-building. Really, I write whatever comes to my mind, without going too into detail. My goal is to give my opinions and share my thoughts but I don't want to ruin the book for anyone. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
Now, how do you write your reviews?

Review of Tranquility (Otherkin, #2)

Tranquility (Otherkin, #2)
by Anya Bast
.99 cents on Kindle & FREE on Nook
3.5 of 5 Stars

Description:

Roane leaves the Fury werewolf pack to make room for his brother, Merrick, and his new mate. A natural alpha, there's nowhere Roane can go in wolf country and not stir up trouble. He settles in a town called Tranquility and immediately raises the hackles of the local pack leader.

Even worse, Roane gets one look at Scarlet, the pack leader's sister, and will do anything to possess her. Scarlet tries to resist him, but his touch inflames desire she can barely control. And that means heaps of trouble for both of them.

This short story is a free title, offered by New York Times bestselling author, Anya Bast. Tranquility is part two of a two part series. Fury is the title of part one. These titles are highly erotic and meant for those 18 years or older.
(From Goodreads)

Review:

After reading the first book, I really wanted to know what would happen with Roane. I was pleased to find that I liked him more than his brother, Merrick, the hero of the first book.
The fact that the two stars are werewolves caught my attention right away since I'm a sucker for paranormal romance.

Review of Love Storm

Love Storm (Russian Series/Kuzan Family #1)

2.5 Starts of 5

He was her only hope of escape, her one guarantee of safe passage to her home in the Causasus Mountains. But Prince Alexander Kuzan mistook the alluring redhead for a lady of the evening, the perfect plaything to relieve the boredom of his country journey.
Only after her exquisite innocence was revealed did the most notorious rake in St. Petersburg realize that his delicious game of seduction had turned into a conquest of his heart
.
(From Goodreads)

Review:

I wanted to love this book, since I have read a few of Susan Johnson's books in the past and really enjoyed them. However, this books was just...bad. The premise/plot was nice and typical for a historical romance but I could just not get into the characters or their "romance."
