Teaser Tuesday

Hi All!

I finally was able to spend a weekend writing. Refreshing and exhausting at the same time.
Today, I'd like share a  snippet from Caressed by the Edge of Darkness (Rulers of Darkness #5).

~ The rancid stench of chard flesh thickened the stale dungeon air. Blood stained the cold stone floor. A faint heart beat and the rasp of shallow breaths whispered through the darkness. There were no whimpering sighs or screams for help. The word mercy had no meaning in a Hell such as this.

Hate, so pure, so true, so strong, electrified the air, it snapped and sizzled like lightning.

Chains scrapped the ground, sloshing through puddles of fresh blood and putrid filth.
The slave was on his knees, his shoulders squared, his head never bowing. His chest slowly rose and fell as he defiantly met the blond stranger’s stare. There was no fear in the slave's crystalline green eyes, only lethal determination. His chin tilted up in challenge while crimson rivulets snaked down his bare chest, back, and arms. Droplets of blood elegantly cascaded from his fingertips. Welts scored his torso, long slashes crossed over his shoulders. Dark bruises covered the raw flesh of his neck and trailed down his spine. His skin still smoldered from his recent torture. Tendrils of heat rose from the wounds. Steam danced as his flesh continued to burn and blacken. Yet, he showed no signs of pain or weakness.

Review of The Art of Sinning

The Art of Sinning (Sinful Suitors #1)
23492609
Amazon       B&N
by Sabrina Jeffries
4.5 of 5 Stars

Description:
American artist Jeremy Keane refuses to return home and take over his father’s business. He’d much rather sample bevvies of beauties abroad, in search of a model for the provocative masterpiece he’s driven to paint. When he meets Lady Yvette Barlow at a London wedding, he realizes she’s perfect for his work—and determines to capture the young heiress’s defiant spirit and breathtaking sensuality on canvas.
No stranger to scandal, Yvette agrees to be Keane’s subject—in exchange for his help gaining entry to the city’s brothels he knows intimately, so she can track a missing woman and solve a family mystery. But when their practical partnership leads to lessons in the art of sinning, can they find a bold and lasting love?

Review:
The Art of Sinning was a wonderful start to the new Sinful Suitors series by Sabrina Jeffries. Ms. Jeffries is one of my go to historical authors. All of her books are light, romantic, and fun reads, but this one had a little something extra.
Jeremy Keane isn’t interested in taking over his father’s business. He’d rather advance his career and skills as a painter. While searching for the perfect model for his risque work, he meets Lady Yvette Barlow. Enthralled by her spirit and beauty, he peruses her
Lady Yvette and her family aren’t strangers to scandal. It seems to follow them around like a shadow. When she learns that her brother has an illegitimate son living in a brothel, she agrees to pose for Jeremy, if he helps her locate her nephew.
I really enjoyed the banter between the main characters. You really see them start to evolve and connect. Jeremy was the typical fun, handsome rogue, but he had depth and dimension, which can be lacking in this genre. Lady Yvette was strong and very commanding as a character, far from the simple Miss, which is refreshing. Both characters were refreshingly original. They seem to understand the social restrictions of the time period and try to avoid scandal if possible, but they aren’t going to let it stop them from doing what they believe is right.  The romance was slow to build, though appropriate for the characters, it did leave me wanting a little more.
The Art of Sinning was a great read and is now on my list for top historical romance novels. I’m really looking forward to the next installment within The Sinful Suitors series.

Ramblings of a Quilter Review Surrender to the Chase

Ramblings of a Quilter has given 4 of 5 Stars to Surrender to the Chase
(Under Realm Assassins #2)

Review:
This is the second book in the Under Realm Assassins series. Having said that, I thought the book did well as a stand-a-lone book. The pace was a fast track, but that was okay with it's strong characters without a lot of fluff to cloud things up. I like that it has a straight forward plot line with some intrigue and suspense.

Even though there is a werewolf and vampire; it didn't feel like it was a cookie cutter story that has been done over and over. There was a few risque scenes between the vampire: Ethan and the female lead & werewolf, Fraya as they try to deal with Fraya's father and an alpha werewolf that stalks Fraya.

It would probably have a PG-15 rating for those who might not give it to a young adult reader. There is a bit of violence in the fight scene but not too graphic.  Both the sex and fight scene don't cause a huge blimp on the map as in comparison to some other books & TV that I have across for young adults.

I really liked the book and I am going to give it 4 out of 5 stars.

The sneak peek that I got from the provided ARC has me (in exchange for my humble but honest opinion) looking to see if my library has this series.  If not, I'm going to request that they would consider purchasing it so I can share with other paranormal readers in my area.

Teaser Tuesday

Tease me Tuesday!
Today's snippet is from Caressed by the Edge of Darkness (Rulers of Darkness #5).

~ “Gabriel, don’t! Shit.”
Gannon’s words barely carried over the gun fire and chaos ahead of them, but they didn’t stop his boss from charging into the fray.
Going for his Beretta, Gannon slammed door of the van shut. Rounding the vehicle, he pounded his fist on the side. “Get them to the safe house. Go!”
Without hesitation or question, the driver sped off, tires screeching. The pungent scent of burnt rubber mingled with the fragrance of sea air, gun powder, blood, and death.
Just another Saturday night.
Gannon tore across the cement dock toward the old boathouse.
Joining his soldiers, Gabriel crashed into the battle armed with only a pair of daggers. He’d brought knifes to a gun fight. Gannon knew his best friend and mentor was a Maniac, he wasn’t sure if he should add Homicidal or Suicidal to the title.
Gabriel was impossibly graceful as he fought. Slicing, cutting, stabbing, dodging bullets and throwing stars, gliding through the carnage with deadly elegance. He made murder and mayhem beautiful. A true artist.~

Painted Words/Tipsy Quill Review: Surrender to the Chase

Read Painted Words/Tipsy Quill's review of Surrender to the Chase (Under Realm Assassins #2). Enter to win am ebook copy of Surrender to the chase HERE!

Review:

Surrender to the chase is a compelling and fast-paced read. Jumping right into the action and telling you about each character and their back story at page 1. The chemistry between the heroine and hero is hot as hell and sexy as sin. A definite must read. It's part of a series called The Under Realm Assassins, but can be read as a standalone, which is how I read it. There is no tie in to the first book or the characters, with the exception of their line of work and a brief phone conversation with Ethan and last books hero Cole.

Ethan is both a pain in the ass and a swoon worthy hero and Fraya is headstrong and exasperating… but even so, I love them! I literally could not get enough of this book or their sizzling hot chemistry. I especially liked the details put into each character’s backstory and how they seem to be connected.

My only really peeve about this read is what seems to be the norm for this genre as of late; it was a relatively fast read and not that long of a story. I was able to finish it within a few hours and jump right into another book I have scheduled for a review.

4.5 Quills
I for one am really looking forward to reading more from this author, starting with book 1 of this series, A Bewitching Christmas. I also got a massive kick outta Ethan’s ringtone seeing as how it made a debut as my ringtone many years ago when I was feeling nostalgic.
