Review: Rulers of Darkness Box Set (Books 1,2,&3)

4 of 5 Stars to The Rulers of Darkness Box Set (Books 1,2,&3)

 Caressed by Moonlight

In the first book of the series, we are introduced to Dorian's world in which he has left his clan in order save them, by drawing the Red Order Hunters to him. Victoria is penniless due to her father's debts, and is trying to find a way to keep her younger sister with her, which means getting married within a month. Circumstances - and Victoria's best friend Lana - throw Dorian and Victoria together.

Caressed by Night

Dimitri has long been thought to be dead, but as you find out, he had his reasons for what he did. He moves to Vegas, knowing that things will be coming to a head soon. He doesn't realise (to begin with) that he will find his mate and she will be put at risk by his plans.

This world is very fast-paced, with insta-love, but the females are strong-willed and sassy whilst the vampires are completely Alpha. I loved seeing Dorian and Victoria again in their cameo appearances.

Caressed by a Crimson Moon

Hadrian was so very close the edge - in more ways than one. Falcon was able to bring him back, along with help from Dimitri's letter. One of the things he decides to finally put into action, is the alliance with one of the shifter packs. The Alpha doesn't want to send his precious full-blood daughter, so he sends his half-breed instead. This could be construed as an insult, but it is exactly what Hadrian expected to happen. However, things aren't as straight forward as he might be expecting, when it appears that Eva is his mate, and not just any half-breed at that.

A wonderful addition to this series, continuing in this well-written and described world. There is still so much more to come, I'm sure. Definitely recommended.

Review of Blood and Snow

Blood and Snow

Description:
A lance corporal in her territory's vampire army, Scarlet is no stranger to the violence and bloodshed of war, but in the midst of it, she discovers something that makes it all worthwhile--love.
Her kind are at war with the humans, a long running feud that has claimed countless lives, and Scarlet is all too aware that vampires are no longer guaranteed a long life after they're turned. Time seems to be of the essence, but she can't bring herself to admit her feelings to the man who had claimed them so wholly--her captain, Corazon.
Corazon has lived through two centuries of war. Tired, disenchanted, and with only his sense of duty to sustain him, he is garnering a reputation for having a heart of ice. But there is one woman at his garrison that can melt the frost within him--Scarlet. Torn between duty as her commanding officer, and his growing love for her, he fights his own personal battle while all around him fight the war.
When things take a turn for the worse, can their love for each other sustain them, and can they find a way to end the war and live in peace together at last? (from Goodreads)

Review:
I was scrolling through my Nook and saw Blood and Snow for $0.99 - snatched it up. I love reading Felicity Heaton’s books and was a bit surprised that this one was a standalone.
A war has been raging between the vampires and humans for a couple hundred years. The setting is a bit medieval, which was great, and the world building was enchanting. The description of the surroundings and the breakdown of the garrison seemed so authentic. The book has a dark feeling about it and kind of reminded me of Underworld.
Scarlet is a newly transformed vampire freshly enlisted. She has a huge crush on her superior, Captain Corazon.  Ever since he saved during her first mission, she’s been in love with him and she’s convinced he feels nothing for her. Besides, a love like theirs would be frowned upon.
Corazon (LOVED HIM) is the strong silent type. He is a skilled warrior and tries his best hide his emotions for Scarlet. They are both torn between duty and love while the war hits home. Scarlet fights valiantly and is injured a couple of times, as is Corazon. This allows them time to speak one on one and bond.  However, with encouragement from their friends and with facing death every day, they decide to embrace their love.
This was a sweet romance filled with angst – it was refreshing to not have the characters hooking up immediately. What kept me from giving this book a perfect 5 stars: I felt it moved a bit too slow, the love triangle, and the charters spent a lot of time in personal reflection. Overall, great read! I suggest anyone who loves vampire romance and Felicity Heaton to grab this book.

Caressed by Night
Dimitri Arsov, the last remaining pure vampire, was thought to be dead for the past four hundred years. Now, he is back and has a score to settle with the traitor that had tried to kill him centuries ago. But as he waits for his prey to blindly step into his carefully laid trap, his overwhelming hunger for blood is triggered when he saves a beautiful art historian.
Kerstyn Ingmar's life was normal and straight up boring until the night she is rescued by the dangerously sexy, powerfully mesmerizing, Dimitri. Unable to resist his diamond blue eyes and intense kisses, she is drawn into his world of darkness and closer to her impending doom.
While their desire consumes them, Dimitri is haunted by images of a bloody and deadly future. As his enemies draw near, he must find a way to save his mate from her destiny before fate destroys them both.

Caressed by a Crimson Moon

Consumed by madness and tormented by dark memories of blood and death, Hadrian Lucretius, King of the Validus Clan, has returned after living in self-imposed exile for nearly three hundred and fifty years.
To maintain peace with the vampires, Eva Maldonado is offered as a sacrifice to the crazed vampire king by her father, the alpha of the Silveria Shifter Pack. Hadrian's reputation is both legendary and lethal; he is ruthless, bloodthirsty, lusty, and soulless. When Eva arrives at the ancient fortress high in the Carpathian Mountains, she is shocked to find a ravaged man with dark burning eyes filled with loneliness and dangerous desire.
Would she be his lover...or his prey? His savior...or his victim? Would Hadrian lure her into madness or would their perilous passion be their redemption?

England's Perfect Hero (Lessons in Love #3)
Suzanne Enoch
4 of 5 Stars

*Personal Purchase*

Description:
Lucinda Barrett's best friends ended up married to the men to whom they delivered their "lessons in love." So Lucinda decides to choose someone who definitely needs lessons, but someone who will not complicate her life. And that person is definitely not Robert Carroway.
Robert is nothing if not complicated, and though he is the brother of a viscount, he rarely goes about society, and finds the weather and hat fashions ludicrous subjects for discussion. Robert is attracted to Lucinda's unpretentious ways, her serenity and her kindness. When she chooses someone for her love lessons, Robert offers to help her deliver her lessons, but sets out to convince the woman he has fallen for to take a chance on love...and on him.

Review:

England's Perfect Hero is the final book within the Lessons in Love trilogy. Finally, we get Lucinda's story. Personally, she was my favorite out of the three ladies that decide they needed to give lessons to some of the most notorious and handsome rakes in London. Only, Lucinda isn't interested in complicating her life with marriage like her two friends. She wants to provide the lesson, but not get swept away. So, she doesn't think much of it when Robert offers to help.Robert Carroway was introduced in the previous book. He was quiet and all the reader really learns about his character is that he's a war hero and a friend of the previously main characters. It was really interesting to see his character emerge and develop. He is a bit of a recluse and, what isn't mentioned in the describe, he has PTSD. He has tremendous emotional strength and is every bit England's perfect hero and practical Lucinda has no idea what she's in for. The romance was sweet, but a little slow building for me. I would have preferred a little more passion and the ending was a tad bit rushed, but overall it really was great story. Ms. Enoch captures the era wonderfully.

~ A quiet, peaceful numbness washed over him then. Gabriel knew what he had to do.

Ripping off the black leather glove over his right hand, Gabriel brought his wrist to his mouth and savagely tore open his flesh with razor like fangs. Willing the wound to remain open, blood flowing from the hideous gash, he stalked toward the table. Thick droplets hit the dry, cracked floors, the wood greedily soaking in the crimson pools.

Gently cupping her chin with his left hand, Gabriel used his thumb to part her lips.~

The Book
535754Reforming a Rake (With This Ring #1)
Suzanne Enoch

A governess must never be alone with a man. Her reputation mustn't have even a hint of scandal.
She must never reveal personal emotions. No matter how strong the provocation by her employer.
A governess never questions her employer's commands. Even when he's tempting her to forsake respectability for desire?
She must never, ever, fall in love with someone above her station. Especially a rake—no matter how devastating his kisses may be.
Alexandra Gallant is a governess extraordinaire—and if it weren't for that unfortunate incident at her last position, she wouldn't now be forced into the employ of Lucien Balfour, the most notorious rake in London. Though the sinfully attractive earl hired her to teach his young cousin, his seductive whispers and toe-curling kisses suggest he has something far less respectable in mind...and that will never happen. For although Lucien seems determined to teach her about pleasure, she has a few lessons to teach him about love!
