Description:
Kristen Haardrad met the icy fury in her captor's crystal-green gaze with defiance. She was the prisoner of Royce of Wyndhurst, but his slave she'd never be. This powerful Saxon lord had at last met his match in the Viking beauty - his equal in pride, in strength...and in the fierce, hot hunger of insatiable desire. But Kristen could not know the torment that divided his soul; how he ached to hold her soft, supple body, thirsted for the ringing joy of her laughter - yet hated her for an ancient crime that was not her own.
But her golden loveliness drives him mad with desire, her fiery eyes taunting him, compelling him to claim her. Until, in wordless surrender, they cast aside the shackles of doubt and distrust to unite forever in the searing promise of all-consuming love.
Review:
As some of you already know, I'm a huge Johanna Lindsey fan and her Haardrad Vikings Family trilogy is my favorite Viking series! These are in my "go to" list for feel good books. If I'm having a hard day or stressed out, these books are an amazing escape.
Kristen Haardrad is the daughter of couple of the first book, Fires of Winter. She sneaks aboard a Viking ship that is ambushed. With her brother thought dead, she yearns for revenge. Held prisoner, she tries to disguise herself as a boy and does get away with it for a little while. But when it is discovered that she is a woman, she draws the interest of the Royce of Wyndhurst.
Royce hates the Vikings and rightly so, since they slaughtered his family, raped and murdered his wife before him. Despite all of his pain, he isn't cruel, but finds it hard to accept his attraction and feelings for the Viking beauty.
Now, I've never come across a more stubborn couple. The battle of wills is very entertaining and the romantic tension sucks in the moment they meet. I also liked how Kristen is not the typical petite, pretty, blonde. She is tall and strong, she is a skilled fighter and shows Royce on several occasion that she had handle herself.
If you love historical and are a tired of the typical regency, I highly suggest you pick up the Haardrad Viking Family series.
