Description:

NOT ALL SCARS HEAL
For Donovan Pate, the lake town of Evergreen Cove is a minefield of tough memories—including the day he had to let go of Sofie Martin. Years later, he still can’t forget the taste of her lips and the feel of her killer curves. He knows he’s too damaged, that he should stay away for her own good. But what the head says and the heart wants are two very different things…
Seven years ago, Donovan broke Sofie’s heart. Now her career depends on playing nice in order to pull off the charity fundraiser of the decade. She vows to keep things professional…yet working by his side every day doesn’t make it easy to fight temptation, and it isn’t long before she finds herself falling for this bad boy all over again. But loving Donovan means helping him face his past–so they can fight for a future together.

Review:

After reading the first book this series, I was hooked! Rescuing the Bad Boy is the second within the Second Chance series and it was even better than the first!

Donovan Pate has some serious scars from his childhood and, to start with, is the typical alpha-a-hole. But the author develops his character and reveals why he behaves in such a way. He’s built walls over the years and it was moving to see how the heroine helps him evolve.
Sofie Martin and Donovan have a past. Seven years prior, they had met, fell in love, and he hurt her – badly. Now, he is back in town to prepare his childhood home for sale after the passing of his grandmother. But, his grandmother had arranged for a charity event to take place there before her passing and the event planner is the one and only Sofie. The woman he felt he never deserved and run from.
Sofie is a strong female lead, which I enjoy reading. She picked up the pieces has made a great life for herself. Seeing her journey of healing and acceptance of the past was fantastic. I felt for her when being around Donovan brought her long time buried feelings for him to the fore. At times, Donovan’s behavior was…disappointing, but it was part of his character’s development. The romance between the hero and heroine sizzled, their attraction was undeniable and their ending was heart felt.
This was an amazing read and I can’t wait for the next installment.
