I hope you all are well and enjoying your summer. Today, I'm sharing the first chapter of Caressed by Shadows (Rulers of Darkness, #4). I wish you all happy reading!

Chapter One

Rain ran in rivulets down his face, the droplets caught on his lashes like tiny crystals, a delicate contrast to the harsh gunmetal grey of his eyes.

Falcon observed the group of Red Order Hunters that gathered in the ally below. Shadows clung to him, concealing him in their darkness. His prey’s laughter sailed on the wind, their merriment grating his nerves.

           Poor bastards, they were peacefully oblivious to the specter of death that stalked them.

The hunters had taken from him, stolen what he loved most in this world. Sonya Rebane, the queen of the Voidukas Clan.

~ Pink danced across the horizon as the sun rose. Sonya closed her eyes and released a deep sigh. She had been waiting for what seemed like an eternity to feel the warmth of the sun heat her skin. Her vampire senses screamed for her to go to ground, to find a dark sanctuary when the damn rays could not reach her. But she would not hide. It was time. She had achieved her mission, killing all the wolf shifters, and now she would join her family. That is, if se were accepted into Heaven. She harbored a demon within her. It craved blood, it murdered, and it destroyed without discrimination. Today, it would meet its end. She would face the sun and greet death.

“Beautiful morn.”

Sonya snapped to attention. On instinct she pulled her hunting knife free of its sheath strapped to her thigh.  In one fluid movement, she came to her knees and spun around to face the source of the voice.

A small girl, with her long blonde hair in matching braids stood just out of her reach. The child smiled, laughter lighting her dark brown eyes.

Sonya searched the forest with her sense. She did not hear anyone, our scent anyone. The child was alone.

“Where are you parents?” Sonya asked. 
"Far away."

The girl shrugged. “What are you doing?”

Scottish vampire, Connor Buchana, is not interested in love. he doesn't understand how his friends could possibly let such a sappy emotion take over their lives. He understands that it might be a callus attitude, but...whatever. He is hard, gruff, and is sexy as hell - I love the idea of a hot vampire wearing a kilt. (sigh)
