Review:
Lucan Thorne is an ancient “Breed” warrior vampire. For
centuries he has fought against the Rogue vampires to keep not only vampire
society a secret/safe, but to also protect the humans.
Gabrielle Maxwell is a gifted, immensely successful
photographer. She is drawn to old buildings and darkness. Her photos have a certain…paranormal
quality that her fans love.
She had no idea that she had been taking photos of
vampire dwellings. It is after an art show that she witnesses a brutal murder.
She is convinced that something otherworldly had killed the young man. The cops
brush aside her suspicions, but her story and picture of the scene catches
Lucan’s attention as well as the Rogue vampire’s.
Lucan must protect her from the vampire’s bloody war and
fight his attraction for Gabrielle, which he finds to be impossible. Their
lives become more and more entwined as they journey through the mystery of
Gabrielle’s past and face dangers together.
This was a wonderful first book within a series. The writing
was detailed and the characters held my attention the entire time. With books I’ve
been reading lately, I find myself saying “yawn” and skipping paragraphs and
sometimes a couple pages at a time. What kept me from giving this book a higher
rating is my personal preference of steamier scenes and a deeper romantic relationship
between the hero and heroine.
I have the second and third book and plan on
diving in again as soon as summer hits and my classes are out.
