10 Things Reader’s Might be Surprised to Know about Me - Guest Post

1. One of my favorite movies of all time is the Godfather Part I. I watch it every time it’s on and love it so much so that I walked down the aisle to the Godfather Love Song rather than the traditional Bridal March. Also, when my husband and I were introduced as Mr.  & Mrs. for the first time, the DJ played the Godfather Trilogy’s theme song. Hey, I’m Italian – it fits.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zMGE8pks9UE

2. Flame and the Flower by Kathleen E. Woodiwiss was the first true romance novel I ever read. It was one of my grandmother’s favorite romances that she allowed me to borrow. This historical is written in the true bodice ripper fashion and was originally published it 1972.

Goodreads: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/896623.The_Flame_and_the_Flower

3. My love of vampires started in middle school when I read my first Y/A paranormal novel but Dark Gold by Christine Feehan was the first adult paranormal romance I ever read and I was hooked.  Goodreads: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/108385.Dark_Gold

4. I have a terrible habit of starting series on book 3. Dark Gold is the 3rd installment within the Dark series. I don’t know what it is, but the 3rd book almost never fails to capture my attention and then I have to go back and read books 1 and 2.

5. My husband and I met when we were 10. We were in the same 5th grade class and actually “went out” that year. We went to different middle schools and high schools, but reconnected when he joined the military.

6. We have 5 fur babies: Yes, 5! We've got 3 dogs and 2 cats. My husband had the idea to name all of our dogs after guns (eye roll, but whatever makes him happy), and so we have Barrett (our old man), Kimber (our distinguished lady) and Springfield (spring is the perfect description for that energetic guy). Our daughter named out 2 cats: Comancho (feisty but lovable), and Basquet (a little purr machine).

7. It’s an odd observation, but the family tends to marry people that are a foot taller than them. I’m 5’4” and my husband is 6’4”. My mom is 5’6” and my dad is 6’6”. My aunt is 5’3” and my uncle is 6’3” and so on and so on. It’s a little weird…

8. My dream car would be a trophy truck. Yes, I want a rallied out truck. I love off-roading.

9. I wrote my first full length novel when I was 12 – after I met and fell in love with my first vampire hero. That had been the first version of Caressed by Moonlight (Rulers of Darkness #1). I wrote the book by hand and kept it in a 3 ring binder. The thing is falling apart but I still have it.

10. I didn’t intend to make Caressed by Moonlight a part of a series, but after I got to know the characters, I had to share all their stories. I’ve recently released the Rulers of Darkness series, books 1 through 3. There will be a total of 6 minimum.

Snippet Shared with That's What I'm Talking About

Snippet
As if reading her thoughts his alluring lips hitched in the corner and he softly said, “I told you, dove, I won’t harm you.”
“Strange words for an assassin,” she replied with a sardonic laugh.
“Aye, I imagine they are.”
“You know what I am and—”
He held up a hand stopping her. “Until you give me a reason not to trust you, you’ve nothing to fear from me.”
Squaring her shoulders and straightening her spine, she made her voice as stern as she could,
“What are you going to do with me?”
Those bronze eyes of his flickered with yearning or lust? It’d been so fleeting she questioned if she’d seen anything at all. “We’ll strike a bargain.”
Katya frowned. “I’ve nothing of value. Nothing to trade.”
“Not so.”
She shifted uncomfortably under his stare and unconsciously brought the towel to her chest as if to protect herself from him.
James shook his head. “You’re a lovely dove and I may be a pirate to the core, but I won’t ravish you.” He paused and flashed her a mischievous smile. “You’ll have to ask prettily for that pleasure.”
“You wouldn’t want to…be with me that way.” Her words were so low, she wondered if he’d heard them. “You really wouldn’t. I’m…dangerous.”
Sex with a succubus was different from sex with other women, as they mated the succubus siphoned her partner’s energy. But Katya was stronger than other succubae. If she lost control she could easily kill her partner. My poor George…
The vampire coolly and seductively stated, “I love danger. Live for it.”
Katya wasn’t able to hold back her surprised gasp. “Sir—”
“James, remember? And you needn’t protect me.”
She wet her suddenly too dry lips. “James. I’m flattered you would say such, but you needn’t bother.”
He released a heavy sigh and dropped the power bar he’d been holding in her lap. “Eat this.”
“I—”
“Bloody hell,” he muttered under his breath. “You must be starving and, if not, eat it to appease my conscience.”
She toyed with the edges of the wrapper. “Why do you have food? I thought vampires only drank blood.”
He shrugged. “Food isn’t necessary, but I enjoy the occasional snack. That one is peanut butter flavor.”
Katya opened the packaging, sniffed at the bar then took a tiny nibble.
“Like it?”
She nodded and took a bigger bite.
“Right, then, back to business. You’re wrong about not possessing anything of value. In more ways than one.” James sat on the edge of the bed. “You have information and in my line of work, that is as good as gold. Better, even.”
“Information?” she asked before taking another bite.
“The shifters. The magic thieves.”
Her eyes rounded in understanding as she continued to chew. He’d been tracking the thieves, not her. The Syndicate hadn’t marked her for execution. The knowledge was comforting and she breathed a little easier. “What is the bargain?”
“You will answer all of my questions and grant whatever assistance I require. In exchange, I will provide you with protection and see you safely returned to the Under Realm.”
“Returned?”
“Aye.”
You can’t stay here. The words needn’t be spoken. She understood. Dark magic wielders were not permitted in the mortal realm. But she couldn’t go back to her tribe. She wouldn’t go back.
She was done with their snickers and stares, done with their mistrust and hate. She’d return to the
Under Realm and start over, make a new life.
Great idea, but with what money? She needed funds so she could strike out on her own.
Summoning her courage she met his unwavering gaze. “Information may be as good as gold to you, but gold is gold to me.”
James’s eyes sharpened and narrowed. She willed her nerves to remain calm under his hard scrutiny. As if seeing directly into her thoughts, he asked, “What are you running from?”
“We’re negotiating. Is that not what is done when striking a bargain?”
He arched a brow at her deflection.
“I’m not running.” I’m escaping, there’s a difference.
James continued to silently gaze at her and Katya wondered if he could indeed hear her thoughts, or feel her emotions. His bronze eyes seemed to peer directly into her soul and for a heartbeat of a moment she considered sharing everything—wanted to tell him everything. Her instincts encouraged her to reach out to him not just physically but emotionally. The drive terrified and thrilled her.
A tiny sigh of relief escaped her when he finally spoke. His words shattered the weighted silence and saved her from revealing vulnerabilities best kept secret.
“Two hundred gold doubloons, er, coins.”
Katya could’ve sworn her jaw had hit the ground. He couldn’t have just said what she thought he said. “Antique mortal gold?”
James tilted his head in answer.
“That’s a fortune.” Mortal gold’s purity was renowned in the Under Realm. Two hundred coins was a small fortune.
“You may run as fast, as far, and for however long you please.”
She shook her head in disbelief. “I can’t accept—”
He chuckled. “You’ve little experience with negotiating, I’d wager.”
True. But she wasn’t a fool. What he offered was too good.
Katya chewed on her bottom lip. Could this be a trap? Could she trust him to protect her and deliver her back to the Under Realm? And the money? But what choice did she have?
She extended her hand. “Deal.”

Description:
James Stonewoll is an Elite Assassin for the Under Realm Syndicate—an expert hunter and merciless killer. As a former pirate, he thrives on danger, the more perilous the mission, the better and he can't resist his newest contract: eliminate a rebel shape-shifting magic thief that stalks the border of the Under Realm kidnapping and murdering innocent Others. But never did the centuries old vampire anticipate playing hero to a mythical temptress with luscious curves, tantalizing lips, and hypnotic eyes.
Captured and held prisoner, Katya Moro was trapped in a seemingly endless loop of unimaginable agony as her magic was slowly being torn from her soul. A gasp away from death, she is rescued by a sinful kiss and awakens in the strong arms of a powerful warrior whose roguish smile, sharp fangs, and intense strength unlock dormant instincts within her, an all-consuming madness that demands complete surrender.

Dark Magic Wielders, like the beautiful female he’d found, were a grave threat to human society and were not permitted to roam the mortal world. But Katya’s smoky voice and sweet kisses stir a fierce hunger inside him. She is unpredictable, uncontrollable and wickedly seductive—his perfect kind of dangerous. To keep her safe, James will protect her from the magic thieves that hunt her and his fellow assassins until he can find a way to return Katya to her home in the Under Realm.

Urban Fantasy Investigations: Guest Post with Amanda J. Greene

UFI welcomes author Amanda J. Greene

Under Realm Assassins World

Today, I’m going to be introducing you all to the world of the Under Realm Assassins series.

Before we get started, I’d like to introduce myself. I’m a paranormal romance author from Southern California. I went the indie publishing route in 2010). I love the paranormal romance genre. It allows my imagination free reign to create large worlds inhabited by all sorts of creates: vampires, werewolves, witches, shape-shifters, demons, angels, and all other sorts of beasties. I’ve published two series. The Rulers of Darkness series focuses on vampire clans while the Under Realm Assassins series features all sorts of paranormal creatures.

When I originally thought up the idea for the Under Realm Assassins I wanted to form a dark and dangerous world that featured all sorts of creatures. I also wanted to make these books fast-paced and steamy, so they are all novellas.

In the Under Realm Assassins series, I introduce a world hidden from mortals, populated by all manner of beings known as the Other Society and is governed by the Syndicate. When the peaceful balance between the mortals and Others is threatened or when tensions rise between different factions within the Under Realm (a world outside the mortal realm), the Syndicate sends in their assassins.

As one would expect, not much is known about these assassins. More rumors and myths surround their existence than facts, and many within Other Society don’t believe they  exist. There are viewed as the Syndicate’s version of the boogie-man especially since their ranks are made entirely of vampires, an extremely rare breed among Other Society, one of which very little is known.

This series is packed with sexy, deadly alpha males whose sole purpose is to hunt and eliminate the most dangerous criminals of Other Society and the strong, independent women that make their cold, hard hearts burn with passion.

So, with that, welcome to the mysterious world of the Under Realm.

Under Realm Assassins Series

A Bewitching Christmas

It has been seven years since Analette Dyson stopped practicing magic and headed to New York, where she created a new life, complete with a fabulous job, an apartment in Central Park West, and a sexy werewolf fiancé. She never planned on returning to her small home town in Maine, but when she learns her grandmother is ill, she decides to pop over for a visit and what better time than Christmas? Excited for her fiancé to meet her family, they head up a day early.
Worst idea ever!
After doing some last minute Christmas shopping, Analette returns to their hotel to find her fiancé in bed with another woman. Cursing the universe for her never ending bad luck with men and dreading telling her family about her cheating fiancé, she heads to the bar to self medicate.
Not one to celebrate the holidays, vampire and assassin, Cole McRae, has followed a lead to a rustic town in witch territory. But after a few days of research and waiting for his target to show, he begins to suspect he has wasted his time. Guest Post with Amanda J. Greene on Book Lovers 4Ever

Book Lovers 4Ever

Guest post by Amanda J. Greene
I have always been infatuated with vampires. I love the paranormal realm. Authors have free reign to create a unique and captivating world – Scottish vampires in kilts. Heck yeah!

The first paranormal romance I had ever read was Dark Gold by Christine Feehan. I was in high school and, at the time, I wasn’t aware that is was part of a series. When I discovered there were more, I snatched them bad boys up. Then I met and fell in love with the Sherrilyn Kenyon’s Dark Hunters and J.R. Ward’s Black Dagger Brotherhood. I have way too many book boyfriends. It’s difficult to keep track.

Having ready many paranormal romance novels, my imagination went wild with story ideas. As the cliché goes, write what you love and I did! It took time to discipline myself and concentrate on one storyline at a time. I began with Caressed by Moonlight, which was originally a standalone but quickly became the first installment within the Rulers of Darkness series. I have to say, I’ve had so much fun writing these books. Especially Caressed by Shadows, Rulers of Darkness, # 4. The book is packed with action while our hero and heroin battle their enemies and their attraction for each other. The tension is high between Falcon and Sonya and when they finally succumb to their passion it is explosive. Caressed by Shadows is fast paced, romantic, and sets up the next book, Caressed by the Edge of Darkness.

The paranormal romance genre is limitless for writers. So many worlds, so many mythologies, legends, and magical abilities for characters – I look forward to working with and reading this genre for years to come!

JBs Bookworms - Character Interview, Gabriel Erhard

JBs Bookworms - Character Interview
Gabriel Erhard
Caressed by the Edge of Darkness

Thank you for joining us today.

(Gabriel settles his large frame in the chair.)

Tell us a little bit about your story.

Gabriel: I’m not the sharing type, but…like most stories, mine starts off with attraction. Vampire finds an irresistible woman, Jordan, and decides to claim her—you know how it goes. Before I could place her under my protection, she was taken by my enemies.  I vowed to rescue her.  I did every, and I mean everything, to get her back.  But, being the unfeeling bastard that I am…  (Clears his throat) … that I was, even after I had her in my arms I had a…difficult time accepting who she what she meant to me.  I’m still learning how to deal with these new emotions.

Is there anything you would want changed if the Author asked you?

Gabriel: My search for Jordan could’ve been shorter. I spent months raiding slave houses and attacking my enemy’s strongholds in the hope of finding her. I hate that Jordan was held captive or so long.

How would you describe your Author?

Gabriel: She’s truly the only one who knows my entire life story and I’d like to keep it that way—we have an understanding.
She outlines ours stories, but she allows us free reign here and there.  (Smirks) I know I surprised the hell out of her in Chapter 19. So much so that she sat back and blinked at the screen then went and told her husband, “You will not believe what Gabriel just did.”
Mrs. Greene is crafty though and has been keeping her plans for the series under lock and key. None of the Rulers of Darkness knows what will happen next. Not even Dimitri, and he has the gift of sight.

Do you feel like she portrayed you correctly?

Gabriel: Like I said, we have an understanding, and I didn’t make it easy for her to balance my cold-hearted, emotionless, occasional brutality with my soft, cuddly side. But, yes, I think she did a bang up job portraying me. She managed to show just how ruthless I can be, but just how much of a love-struck fool I can be for my mate.

How about others in the story. Do you feel she did well with them?

Gabriel:  (Grins.) Mrs. Greene gave me the most kick-ass mate in the Rulers of Darkness series and I sincerely thank her for it. Jordan understands me and she’s far from quiet and retiring.
She also revealed more of Gannon, my second in command, and his relationship with the Shaw High Priestess, Silvie. I believe their book will be next. Those two… (Shakes his head) I can’t tell if that is a match made in heaven or hell.

You might be wondering why I’m wearing a scarf on a hot sunny day. It’s not that I don’t trust you, (Tightens the scarf), or anything. I’m just deathly allergic to vampire venom. You know like some people are with bees? So please don’t bite me.

Gabriel:  (His crystalline green gaze sharpens and flickers with shards of black for just a breath. He smiles, revealing the razor tips of his fangs and then relaxes back on his seat. )
I’ve never enjoyed taking directly from the source and avoided feeding as much as I could. Until I met Jordan, I kept my fridge stalked with bagged blood. Jordan’s blood is all I want. (His eyes flash black again.) All I crave

Okay, now that that’s settled. Who created you in the story?

Gabriel: (Visibly tenses.) This isn’t something I speak of often. (He draws in a deep breath and focuses his stare on the interviewer, who shifts uncomfortably in her seat).
When I was a mortal man, I was sold to a Lady Ingrid. To her slaves she was known as Madame Sideth. She kept me for years and feared Death would one day claim her favorite slave. She changed me against my will. She made me into a monster. For centuries I endured her torture. Oh, how she loved to torment her pets. (He spat the last word.)
Dimitri, the sage type guy I mentioned earlier, he helped me escape. He taught me how to control my strength and master my hunger.

Have you seen any more stories in the recesses of your Author’s mind?

Gabriel: I’ve caught glimpses into other worlds. She is currently working another series, Under Realm Assassins, and I know she plans to release Wicked Passion, the third book, in the next few months. But there is so much more. She really just needs to find the time to sit down and work.

If so, do you get to play a part in any of those stories?

Gabriel: I’ll be in Caressed by Dawn, the next Rulers of Darkness installment. Gannon will play the lead and I’ll be there to support him anyway I am able.

You’re no stranger to darkness. What is your Author’s darkest secret?

Gabriel: (Laughs) I can’t share much, but I will say his name is Gregory Wrothston and his book is one she’s been rewriting for at least 10 years. She keeps it low key, but she is beyond excited for his book. Just got to work the fine details and decide:  standalone, trilogy, or series?
