Review of The Darkest Lie (Lords of the Underworld #6)

The Darkest Lie (Lords of the Underworld #6)

4 of 5 Stars

Description:
Forced to his knees in agony whenever he speaks the truth, Gideon can recognize any lie—until he captures Scarlet, a demon-possessed immortal who claims to be his long-lost wife. He doesn't remember the beautiful female, much less wedding—or bedding—her. But he wants to…almost as much as he wants her.
But Scarlet is keeper of Nightmares, too dangerous to roam free. A future with her might mean ultimate ruin. Especially as Gideon's enemies draw closer—and the truth threatens to destroy all he's come to love….

Review:
I had been waiting for Gideon's story! I was so interested to see how Ms. Showalter would format the dialogue - Gideon is the keeper of lies, therefore he can only speak lies. It must have been tricky write and she did it perfectly.
Gideon has the average punk rocker look, complete with tattoos, piercings, blue hair (Love it!) and the attitude. He is drawn to the woman that has recently been imprisoned in his dungeon, but doesn't know why. He struggles to remember how he knows her, but can sense in his heart that their paths had crossed before.
Scarlett is a very strong female lead, characters like her always make me happy. She has been searching for the man she believes had abandoned her. Scarlett is the keeper of nightmares and she doesn't have any qualms about using her curse.
This book was loaded with twists and turns. One of which I didn't seem coming and I'm rarely surprised. The romance was strong, but what kept me from giving this book 5 stars was the sub-plots. As with so many series lately, there is just so much going on in the overall arc that the romance and the main characters sometimes get pushed to the side. I would have liked to have more detail and development between Gideon and Scarlet.
Another enjoyable read. The Lords of the Underworld are some of the favorite bad boys.

~ “Will you do me a favor?” His rough voice banished her anxiety, immediately replacing the debilitating emotion with another – need. He held out his hand. “Will you relax?”
Fraya bit even harder into her bottom lip as she gazed at his out stretched hand. Why was he being nice? And caring? She didn’t like it. She couldn’t like it. The mysterious vampire wasn’t to be trusted.

Review of Surrender to the Chase

Book Junky Girls: Review of Surrender to the Chase
(Under Realm Assassins #2)

Fraya is determined to escape the arranged marriage her father has set up for her, but she never expected the man sent to take her back. Except he isn't a man she her wolf wants him no matter what he is.
Ethan will do his job even if it is one he doesn't really care to do, until he starts to get to know his target and then he realizes there was more to this mission than met the eye.
Fraya is a strong woman willing to do whatever was necessary to survive. She also just wants a place to be free without others dictating her life.
Ethan is a hard man to read, but you see that realizing there is something he wants more than doing his job is new to him and I enjoyed seeing the emotions run through him throughout this one.
The story was fast paced and shorter than I would have liked, but what was there was very enjoyable. The world created was interesting, but there was not allot of information about it and that made it a bit harder to get into.
Overall this was a good short novella.

4.5 Stars

An elite fighting force unlike the world has ever seen...
Scouring the darkest corners of the Highlands and Western Isles, Robert the Bruce handpicks ten warriors to help him in his quest to free Scotland from English rule. They are the best of the best, chosen for their superior skills in each discipline of warfare. And to lead his secret Highland Guard, Bruce chooses the greatest warrior of all.
The ultimate Highland warlord and a swordsman without equal, Tor MacLeod has no intention of being drawn into Scotland’s war against the English. Dedicated to his clan, the fiercely independent chief answers to no one—especially not to his alluring new bride, bartered to him in a bid to secure his command of the deadliest fighting force the world has ever seen. The treacherous chit who made her way to Tor’s bed may have won his hand, but she will never claim his heart.
Although her husband’s reputation is as fierce as his manner, Christina Fraser believes that something softer hides beneath his brutal shell. But the only warmth she feels is in their bed, in glorious moments of white-hot desire that disappear with the dawn. When Christina’s reckless bid to win her husband’s love goes awry and thrusts them into danger on the eve of war, Tor will face his ultimate battle: to save his wife and to open his heart—before it’s too late.

Highland Romance series

I must share:

I stumbled across a wonderful highland historical romance series, Highland Guard, by Monica McCarty. I'm in love! I've been devouring these books and have purchased every single one. I'm now on The Recruit (Highland Guard #6). Every book so far I've rated 4 stars and up. Once I've completed the series I'll post my reviews.

If you enjoy historical highland romance and haven't already begun this series, I strongly recommend you pick up The Chief (Highland Guard #1).

4 of 5 Clouds to Surrender to the Chase

4 out of 5 Clouds and a 6 Chili Pepper Rating for Surrender to the Chase
 - Book Books and More Books

Review:
Best vampire/werewolf book I’ve read.  Strong sexy and yet somehow fragile, the werewolf is running from her past and her family.  Then she is caught by the vampire assassin, and her wolf knows it has found its mate.  (insert happy sigh).
Part of me wishes I could have that wonderful, know it’s the one feeling like shifters do (mind you I have been married to the most wonderful man for 23 years, but it’s so romantic).  This book is hot and sexy.  Make sure you have someone wonderful around when you read it so you can act out the juicy parts ;)
I give this book 4 out of 5 clouds and a 6 chili pepper rating.

4.5 Stars to Surrender to the Chase

Diane's Book Blog has given 4.5 Stars to Surrender to the Chase
 (Under Realm Assassins #2)

Review:

"Assassin, Ethan Halstead, is back to work a year after the death of his friend. His first assignment is to return a runaway werewolf, Fraya, to her pack. Surrender to the Chase was an exciting and fast-paced novella that had me entranced. I enjoyed Ethan’s character. He blames himself for his friend’s death even though he is not at fault. He is good at his job, which is no wonder with as long as the vampire has lived. He is courageous, clever, and protective. Freya is a great character. I cannot blame her for leaving her pack. Her father/Alpha is twisted. Her ex-boyfriend, Ferguson, is also a piece of work. She has not had luck with meeting an honorable man until Ethan. Being a rare female wolf she was guarded and not really allowed to lead a fulfilling life. I felt bad for her situation and was glad she ran away. She is strong and caring. Ferguson is a cunning and cruel adversary. He is easy to dislike and makes an excellent bad-guy. I enjoyed Amanda J. Greene’s writing style and plot. The entire story had a great flow and was interesting from beginning to end. This novella is a fast read packed with content and excitement. Surrender to the Chase is an excellent addition to the Under Realm Assassins Series. Complimentary copy provided in exchange for an honest review."
