Heat enveloped her, and the delicate scent of ginger, wood smoke, and crisp autumn air mixed to create the perfect cologne.
Kade. She knew it was him. Without seeing his face, without hearing his voice. On every level, she knew it was him. And he had been hauling ass.
“Damn, Heather, are you okay?” His breath brushed her ear, gentle yet rough.
Large hands gripped her shoulders and pushed her away a step. Her gaze landed on a very wide chest encased in a muscle-hugging long sleeve thermal.
Were his pants just as tight?
Her gaze dipped, and blistering heat scorched her cheeks. No, not as tight, but the defined lines of his thighs, the firm curve of his ass, and the taut muscles of his calves were on full display. Nope, not as form-fitting as the shirt, but her imagination didn’t have to work too hard to fill in the gaps. A ridiculous stab of jealousy shot through her as she thought of how she wanted to be wrapped around him as tightly as his clothes.
Good grief! Was she jealous of fabric? And, holy pumpkin spice, she knew she’d be dreaming of him tonight.
Get your head straight.
Biting her lower lip, she cast her gaze everywhere but at the man holding her. If she met his stormy-gray stare, there was no telling what she might do. Kiss him. Throw her arms around him and glory in all his strength and warmth. Hell, she might even climb him like a tree. So, she noted the exact shade of reds and golds that shimmered in the trees, and the glow of lights coming from the opening storefronts, and—her brow furrowed—the group of female tourists currently ogling Kade and his godlike physique.
“Heather?”
She summoned her nurse’s calm and focus before meeting his gaze. “Yeah, I’m okay. Just a little rattled.”
