Review of The Secrets of Sir Richard Kenworthy

The Secrets of Sir Richard Kenworthy (Smythe-Smith Quartet Book 4)

by Julia Quinn

22046656
Amazon         B&N

3 of 5 Stars

Description:
Sir Richard Kenworthy has less than a month to find a bride. He knows he can't be too picky, but when he sees Iris Smythe-Smith hiding behind her cello at her family's infamous musicale, he thinks he might have struck gold. She's the type of girl you don't notice until the second—or third—look, but there's something about her, something simmering under the surface, and he knows she's the one.
Iris Smythe–Smith is used to being underestimated. With her pale hair and quiet, sly wit she tends to blend into the background, and she likes it that way. So when Richard Kenworthy demands an introduction, she is suspicious. He flirts, he charms, he gives every impression of a man falling in love, but she can't quite believe it's all true. When his proposal of marriage turns into a compromising position that forces the issue, she can't help thinking that he's hiding something . . . even as her heart tells her to say yes.

Review:

Julia Quinn is a staple on my historical, regency era shelf. Her books tend to be lighthearted, whimsical, and solidly written. When I came across The Secrets of Sir Richard Kenworthy I was intrigued. Honestly, I have read much of Ms. Quinn’s recent works – sadly, my “fun” reading time has been cut back even more than before. ~ The vampire struck, sinking his fangs in deep. She came instantly. The force rocked her body. Fraya’s cry of pure ecstasy shattered the night. With the first draw, she went dizzy with pleasure. Her eyelids fluttered shut. Fraya clung to him, needing more contact. His lips were hot on her throat, his tongue stroked slowly as every draw on her pulse pushed her closer to the edge.~

Excerpt: Caressed by Night

Hi!

I'd like to share an excerpt from Caressed by Night (Rulers of Darkness #2). The following chapter is one of my personal favorites, even though it doesn't feature the hero and heroine of Caressed by Night. It introduces my favorite ruler of darkness, Hadrian.

Excerpt

Falcon took the cool air of the mountains deep into his lungs. Snow had just begun to fall and white flakes floated about his head, settling on his shoulders, and dusting his boots as he went up the steps to the large, imposing doors of the ancient fortress.
Raising his hand, he prepared to knock as he did every time, but tonight was not like the nights in the past. Tonight he had to convince Hadrian to leave this depressing fortress. Tonight the world had to change.
Shoving the massive doors open, he stepped into the dark, empty hall. The high ceilings were covered with cobwebs and the sumptuous tapestries that covered the gray stone walls wore a thick coat of dust.
Glancing over to the wide hearth, he noted one crude-looking wooden chair; gone were the vibrant colors of fine, upholstered furniture.
Crossing the great hall, Falcon’s heart ached. This castle had once been a happy place, filled with warmth and joy. The world was a bright, simple, and kind place then. His Clan had never been more at peace than when Hadrian reigned as king; they hadn’t a care or a worry and Falcon longed for past days.
Coming to a halt at the bottom of the grand staircase, he closed his eyes and searched the fortress with his senses. He knew Hadrian must be masking his power or he would have been able to locate him the instant he had stepped from his car. Stilling his breath, his heart, his blood, he strained his senses.

Hadrian’s aura was faint, but unmistakable. He was in the west wing…Falcon’s eyes snapped open and he took the stairs two at time until he came to the third level. Making a hard left, he continued down the wide corridor. The moon’s rays shimmered through the floor-to-ceiling windows, which lined both walls. His footsteps echoed through the corridor as he rushed to the one room in this castle he never wished to see again.

~ His chest tightened as the overwhelming need to wrap his arms around her slammed into him. He struggled to resist and failed. Ethan whispered a cursed and gathered her in his arms, pulling her closer to him. The delicate lace of her bra abraded his side with her every inhale and exhale. Her long, tapered silken legs pressed against him and her wildflower scent…She slid her thigh over his hips, brushing against his aching erection.

Inspiration: Music

Hi All!

I hope you are having a lovely weekend. Since things have finally begun to settle down, I can get back to writing. With that being said, I'd like to share a song that has helped me with developing a very special character, Gabriel Erhard from the Rulers of Darkness series. Seven Chakras by CES Cru is Gabriel...and a little bit of Gannon, who is Gabriel's 2nd in command. The words may grant you a better understanding of Gabriel, the once blood slave - now vampire king.

Gabriel's book, Caressed by the Edge of Darkness (Rulers of Darkness #5), is still in the works. However, I plan on doing the cover reveal in May.

Thanks for stopping by!

3 of 5 Stars

Description:
Bound by chains, the vampire had slept for 100 years, locked in pain and hunger, until the scent of one woman's blood recalled him to life. Lost in darkness, Grigori finds new sustenance in the light of Marisa's love, and new purpose in his life. Only he can protect her from the evil that stalks the night. Grigori vows to show Marisa that not all the undead are monsters, and that somewhere between the black and white of damnation and desire lay infinite shades of gray.
(Goodreads)

Review:

Marissa decides to go to a carnival being held in her hometown of Los Angeles. She is intrigues by an exhibit, “Count Alexi Kristov, Oldest Vampire in Existence.” I’d been intrigued by a title like that. She goes into the tent and while she is there she manages to cut her finger and also bumps into a mysterious, handsome man named Grigori.

Surrender to Chase Sneak Peek

Hi Everyone!

I know, it has been a wait. Life has been insane! First, the holidays took a lot of energy. Then, my husband was reassigned to a base hours away. I've had to search for a new place and relocate alone, since he is currently deployed. And to top it off, I had school finals and my husband's car to deal with (He was in an accident the week before he deployed and his car was four hours away. He is fine since he is/drives a tank - 1985 Buick Regal a.k.a the pimp mobile).

Finally, I'm back! Writing and outlining my upcoming books. I've got a lot planned :) Let's hope things will settled down and I can get working.

Here is a sneak peek at Surrender the Chase (Under Realm Assassins #2). Enjoy the first two chapters.

Chapter One

Lightning splintered the sky. Thunder shook the earth beneath his feet. Damp heat thickened the air. Any moment the winds would kick up and the red hued clouds would release a torrent of rain.
Ethan loved summer storms and treasured Arizona for its monsoon season. It was only during the madness of the storm that he found peace. In those rare, precious moments, the world reflected the chaos that roiled inside him and he felt…as if he belonged.
Closing his eyes, he took in a deep breath and savored the soothing scent of the dessert. To his disappointment, he would not be able to appreciate the beauty of nature’s fury. Clearing his mind, Ethan unleashed his senses. His mark was close. He could feel her. Crossing the street, he headed for the quaint coffee shop he frequently sped past. She was here, which meant he could call an end to this pointless job.
Ethan was an assassin, not a damn babysitter. He was an expert tracker and sniper, yet the Syndicate had him chasing after a spoiled little she-wolf. He had been tasked with fetching the runaway and returning her to her pack – a complete waste of his time and talents. He couldn’t believe he had let Cole talk him into this. The fact was, this case should’ve never made the list. Why the Syndicate decided to get involved was beyond his understanding. This wasn’t a kidnapping or a hostage situation. The female wasn’t a criminal. She wasn’t a threat to the human or Under Realm society.
His annoyed growled blended with the booming thunder. Cole had insisted Ethan accept this assignment, “You should be grateful the Syndicate is willing to give you a second chance. You’ve been out of practice.”
Who could argue with that logic? Ethan had been off the map for a year. Most within the Syndicate believed he had been killed on his last mission.
I should have been. Shaking his head, he dispelled the thought. He needed to focus on his task.
