Coffee Time Romance & More Interview

http://www.coffeetimeromance.com/Interviews/2016/amandagreene.html#.Vtd19ubr8yN

Welcome to Paranormal Romance Author Amanda Greene! Hello, thank you so much for visiting with me at Coffee Time Romance and More today.

Hi! I’m excited to be here with you all on Coffee Time Romance and More.

Let’s get right into the good stuff. Tell us about The Rulers of Darkness series. What inspired this story idea?

I began writing the Rulers of Darkness series years ago. The first book, Caressed by Moonlight, was intended to be a stand-alone. But as I was working through the book and getting to know the characters, I decided to make it into a 5-book series, which has now grown to a 6-book series. The characters are leading the way.

The Rulers of Darkness series centers around 4 (soon to be 5) vampire Clan Chieftains. There are witches, hunters, and shape-shifters that lurk in the shadows. Forbidden romance, consuming passion, and magic lace each book and bid the heroes and heroines together as well as intertwine all of their stories and journeys.

Sounds great! What is the next release in this series? Do you have a release date yet? Introduce us to your hero and heroine, please.

Caressed by the Edge of Darkness (Rulers of Darkness #5) is my current work in progress. The hero, Gabriel, is one of my favorite leading men and his story has been a long time building. He is a former blood slave and an Outcast who has decided to unite the Outcast Society (those that have been banished from the other clans or made into vampires against Vampiric Law). He will stop at nothing to bring an end to the slavery of humans and vampires. He craves revenge, justice, and will stop at nothing to rescue the woman who has been taken from him, Jordan. I’m anticipating Caressed by the Edge of Darkness to release summer 2016.

Oh good, that gives me time to catch up before the new release. What is your personal challenges when writing a book? Are you challenged by creating non-human characters?

Honestly, the biggest challenge I face when writing is time. Life can be hectic: work, school, family, etc. Writing has become a relaxing escape. When I can, I sneak off to my office and lose myself in the world I have created for my characters – so much fun. I don’t have a problem creating non-human characters. I enjoy creating new worlds and paranormal characters. I actually find writing “normal” characters more difficult. I have to remind myself that they don’t have any magical power or fangs or can shift into a wolf.

Lol. That’s cute! I see you are also a book reviewer. What is your favorite kind of book to read? Do you read mostly in the same genre you write?

When I can, I write reviews for The Book Nympho blog. I enjoy reading paranormal romance (shocker!) and historical romance. Lately, I’ve been on a highland historical romance kick and have been devouring The Highland Guard series by Monica McCarty. I love her writing style, her heroes can be drool worthy, and her heroines aren’t the typical historical lass that needs saving. She puts together some kick *** heroines.

I love strong feminine leads. I’ll have to check into that series. Do you find that you are more sympathetic to other authors because you also write, or do you feel like you are more critical of amateur mistakes?

Even though I’m an author, I am a reader at heart – that’s where I started. There are times when I read a book when I think I would have done something differently, but as a reader, I surrender myself to the story. Books really are the best and cheapest vacations you can buy.

So true! How important is the beginning chapter in your opinion? How about the opening or the first few lines?

The first chapter is crucial and the first few lines would spell life or death for a book. I enjoy reading stories that just start off – bang you’re in the action. I try to do the same when I write. It’s important to have a great hook, to try to find the right words to draw a reader in. If the reader sticks with the book after the first page, you’ve already had some success. Speaking for myself, I rarely DNF a book. It’s just not in me. I will stick with it until the end – You know what they call book marks? Quitter strips.

Lol. I love that! Do you mind a few personal questions? There wasn’t much on your bio. Are you married?  If so, how did you meet? Is he a romantic type? Does he help inspire your books?

My husband, Robert, and I live in Southern California (both born and raised here). We have two fur babies: Kelly (cocker spaniel) & Barrett (a black-mouth cur mix).

I think one day I may turn the story of how we met into a romance novel. My husband and I met in elementary school. We “went out” in 5th grade. Robert would call my house almost every night and we’d talk about whatever it is 10/11 year olds talk about. (I can’t remember). He moved away the summer between 5th and 6th, which was heartbreaking. We attended different middles and high schools. The funny part is, Robert attended the schools I was supposed to go to, but there was no way my parents were going to allow me to go to those schools. Let’s just say, they were…rough.

Anyway, he remembered my parent’s phone number and he would randomly call me throughout the years. We’d talk for hours and then go months without speaking. It wasn’t until we were 19 that we saw each other again. Robert had recently joined the military and I was in college.

He was stationed in San Diego (we grew up about 1-2 hours north of the city) and he was heading home to visit family. While sitting in some terrible traffic he decided to call me. To this day, he says he has no idea what made him think of me or even how he remembered the number. (This man has an awful memory: can’t remember birthdays or even what/if he ate breakfast in the morning). To be honest, I don’t know why I even answered the phone since I have a habit that annoys everyone in my family: I screen all of my calls. At this time, it had been about 2 years since we last spoke. We talked the entire time he was in traffic. Robert was going to visit his sister, who lived literally down the street and around the corner from my house – small world.  So, he asked if he could stop by. Sure, why not?

I remember answering the door and, seriously, my mind went blank and I just stared thinking, damn, he’s fine. His face was the same as I remembered, obviously more grown up. His eyes were a brighter green, but still sweet and humble. He’s got such a genuine smile, it always touched his eyes. And he is tall! My man is about 6’4”.

Robert said he had the same reaction; I still looked like the girl he remembered but again, obviously grown up. We hung out in the backyard and talked a bit, and when he left, we hugged. I remember thinking we held on to each other a bit too long and when he drove away I knew I was a goner. From that day on, we’ve been together. We got married not long after he came back from Iraq.

He has always been very supportive of my writing and helps me brainstorm and world build, but he is not a romantic. I’d have to say the character I wrote that is the closest to his personality would be Ethan from Surrender to the Chase, down to the ring tone he had when we first re-met: Dr. Dre Keep Their Heads Ringin.

That is a fantastic story! Thank you so much for sharing it, and thank you for visiting us today. We look forward to your upcoming releases!

Review: Rulers of Darkness Box Set

Xtreme Delusions gave 4 of 5 Stars to the Rulers of Darkness Box Set (Books 1,2,&3)
Xtreme Delusions

Just as good the second time around

"The Rulers of Darkness series is built on the premise that there are four species on earth: humans, shifters, witches and vampires. The first two books in the series include humans, vampires and witches. Shifters aren’t really introduced until Caressed by a Crimson Moon. All three are based upon the history of the vampires, the curse their leaders live under and the prophesied end to the curse. Thousands of years ago the original vampires got out of hand with their blood thirsty laying waste of humans. The witches took it upon themselves to curse the vampire leadership. The original vampires are all gone and every vampire that takes on the leadership of one of the four clans is slowly driven crazy. Their only hope is to find their mate and prophesy says that only the one true king of each clan will find their mate. Typical of any predator species, the vampires are volatile and the infighting and politics can become rather cutthroat. You have your backstabbing usurpers and treachery abounds. And that’s in house let alone the challenge of dealing with the witches that hunt them. The series starts when Dorian Vlakhos’s clan comes under attack from the Red Order of hunters." - Read the entire review at Xtreme Delusions

Sexy Snippets Tuesday

Tuesdays just got sexier.

This week's sexy snippet comes from
Caressed by a Crimson Mon.

“Touch me,” Eva managed to gasp.
His black eyes narrowed. He spun her about, forcing her back against his chest, his hands gripping her hips as he pressed her front towards the hedge.
Heaven help her, a bolt of dangerous excitement ran down her spine to curl her toes. She pressed her hips back and groaned at feel of his hard cock against her ass.
“Do you know who I am?” he asked.
“Y-yes.”
“Who?” His demand was rough and, God, she loved the anger that laced his voiced. On some level, she knew she was losing her mind. She did not care. She wanted this vampire. Primal, sexual need coursed through her in sweet agonizing pulsating waves.
“H-Hadrian Lu-Lucretius,” she answered.~

~ Reality faded away. Sonya swayed and braced herself against the wall of the shower.

She was there. Sonya was standing in the yard that fateful night. Her father and her mother were dead. She felt the sword slice through her gut. She had expected to feel pain; instead a cold numbness consumed her. The shifters laughed as they turned away from her, leaving her to bleed to death. Using all the strength she had left, she gathered her little sister in her arms. Sveta’s small frame trembled as she took her last breath.

Justice. Revenge, her demon whispered.

The shifters deserved death for what they had done to her family.

Stricken, pale faces stared up at her. Blood dripped from her claws and fangs. The sweet metallic taste filled her mouth. Sonya looked down at her hands. Blood. It was everywhere.

In the distance, she could hear a woman screaming. Pain. Fear. Rage. Pure hate. She could hear and feel every emotion the woman was feeling. Oh, god she hoped it was not the innkeeper’s wife and children.

The bathroom door flew open, crashing against the wall. The force made the entire cottage shake. Falcon tore open the curtain. He was speaking, but she could hear nothing over the screaming.

Justice. Revenge!

She cradled Sveta in her arms. Her sweet face pale, her beautiful gaze void of life.

No. Sveta. God, no!

She was young, too young. Sonya roared. She would make those bastards pay. She would make sure they suffered, she would make sure they felt all the pain they had inflicted upon her family. She would hunt them down and kill them all.

Sonya blinked. She saw Falcon reach for her. His shirt dripped with water from the shower. She flinched away. Looking down, she brushed Sveta’s blood crusted hair away from her face. She would never let her go.

Falcon’s hands gripped her waist. She struggled against him, refusing to release Sveta. Sonya watched his lips move again, but she still heard nothing other than the screams.

Then darkness claimed her.

Falcon cradled Sonya in his arms. Sitting on the edge of the bed, he cupped the back of her head and pressed her head against his shoulder as he gently rocked her.

God, her screams had crystallized his blood. He had burst through the door convinced the hunters had found them. When he pulled back the curtain he found a heart breaking sight. Sonya sat on the floor of the tub, her knees pressed tightly against her chest, her hair soaked, tangled and falling over her shoulders. Her eyes were wide, her gaze wild and unfocused. Her fangs were bear, her claws anchored into her calves. She had refused to release her legs and fought him as he tried to pick her up. Once in his arms, her body gave out and her mind slipped into sweet oblivion.

She lay limp in his arms even now.

Before this night the word fear had not existed in his vocabulary but in that moment, he was consumed by the emotion.

Sonya was marked.

His arms tightened around her. He folded her against him, shielding her from the world, praying that he could protect her from death.

Death. He shook his head. Why hadn’t she told him about the Death Curse? Hell, how could he not have noticed? He had witnessed many great warrior kings perish and she was next.

Damn Sonya and her pride. She was skilled at hiding her pain. No. Agony was a more suitable word. The curse attacked the soul; feeding off what humanity a vampire had left. It preyed on the mind, twisting reality, causing hallucinations. It tortured its victims with overwhelming emotions such as guilt, sorrow and self-loathing while it slowly destroyed the body.

The man and demon within him roared in anguish and anger. She had been taken from him once and he could not bear to lose her again. He would find a way to break the curse. He would speak with Silvie. The Priestess was powerful, stronger than even the Shaman of her tribe. And if she could not help, he would barter what remained of his soul to save his Sonya.

Falcon pressed a kiss to her temple before laying her on the bed. Without his heat, she began to shiver. She trembled so badly her teeth began to chatter. He pulled the sheets and blankets up to her chin, but they had little impact.

He stripped free of his shirt and kicked off his shoes before joining her. She turned toward him, seeking his warmth and touch even in her sleep. He held her against his side and she relaxed, as he stroked his fingers up and down her arm.

Sonya expressed no signs of life. Her heart was quiet, her lungs still, and she was cold to the touch. Falcon could barely sense her aurora. Her energy was weak.

Falcon’s chest tightened as he felt his heart crack beneath the pressure of his warring emotions. He had never felt more terrified or enraged in his unnatural life. Nor had he ever experienced such fierce love and determination.

Instinct told him Sonya was not meant for the realm of the living. The curse was strong within her and death would be coming to collect his bounty.

Falcon drew her closer and held her tighter, wrapping his body around hers protectively.

Death would have to take him first.~

“You smell delicious and,” his tongue circled over her pulse, “I know you taste divine.” His lips moved over her jaw up to her ear. “I want to suck you dry,” he whispered, his breath tickling her ear.
“Dimitri–”
His index finger moved from her throat to press against her lips. “Silence, love,” he hushed, his voice rough, “I simply wish to enjoy you.”

Teaser:

Gabriel frowned as they came upon the only empty cell. He paused and peered inside. A picture of a young woman was taped to the cold handle of the cell.

“What is this about?” he demanded.
The mortals cringed; some threw their hands up protecting their faces in anticipation of a blow. Gabriel sighed and tugged at his short hair. His tone had been sharp, but he would never lash out at them. He knew too well what they had been through.
The girl tugged on his shirt. “That’s the one they talk about.”
“Is she here somewhere?”
The girl wet her cracked, chapped lips and answered, “No.”
“Did they take her?”
“She was never here.”
Gabriel shrugged off the oddity. He needed to lead the group to the emergency stairwell. As he turned away from the cell, rays of white moonlight danced across the photo, drawing his attention once more.
He froze, the air punched out of his chest as ruthless chills attacked his nervous system. He felt as though he had fallen through the ice of a frozen lake. His heart hammered as he slowly lifted his hand, his fingers gently brushing the photo.
Those eyes. He had never seen electric violet eyes like hers. They glowed and… pierced his soul. Gabriel swallowed hard as he studied her delicate features, his gaze lingering a moment on her lush, slightly parted lips. She was looking over her shoulder, brushing aside her long, thick, deep red hair. His gut twisted and his fingers began to tremble against the photo as realization pulled him even further beneath the icy surface.
She was going to be their next victim. This was to be her cage.
Gabriel roared and ripped the photo from the cell. The humans behind him cried out in fear, some glanced back towards their chambers.
“Do you know when they will kidnap her?” he barked, his fangs long, his eyes no longer translucent green, but pure, murderous black.
“No, they never spoke of…they keep records. They document all the…” The girl dropped her head and massaged her temples as if she was trying to force herself to remember. “'Findings'. That’s what they call those they plan on taking. I remember when they brought my mother and me here. They had a folder full of pictures and documents. One man said they had been watching us…for a long time.”
The girl’s sniffle tore at Gabriel’s heart. He hoped to God that Silvie was strong enough to remove all her terrible memories.
He needed to focus on the task at hand. Thrusting his rage aside for later, he spun about and headed for the emergency exit.
“We’ve got to get moving. We haven’t much time. For those of you who are having second thoughts and are considering returning to your cells, it will become your tomb. Explosives are being set as I speak. This warehouse will burn.”
With a swift kick, the bolted door swung open and he led the way down the winding stairs, the skittish humans close on his heels. Once on street level, he busted the sealed emergency door open ushering the people from the building to a line of waiting vans.
The sound of footsteps pricked his ears and he dipped his head back into the stairwell. Gannon was coming down with his group. He clapped the vampire on the back as he passed.
Their mission had been a success. Gabriel wished he had time to stick around to see Ven’s face when he arrived, but they had a few more places to hit.
“All set. The office was swept clean and no casualties.” Gannon gave a short laugh, “On our side, anyway.”
“Everyone out?”
Gannon nodded and glanced down at his watch. “We made it out with time to spare. The last van is leaving, we should―”
“Go if you wish. I want to see this place burn.”
Gannon waved the van on, deciding to stay with his friend. He was not about to leave Gabriel alone; they had been a team for the last almost hundred and fifty years and that was not going to end tonight.
His eyes flickered back to his watch and narrowed as he caught sight of the photo in Gabriel’s hand.
“What’s that?”
Gabriel handed him the picture. “It was taped to the door of an empty cell.”
“Shit,” he whispered as chills broke out across his skin, “she is stunning.”
Gabriel grunted in agreement before reclaiming the photo and tucking it safely into the inside breast pocket of his black leather jacket. “We need to find her.”
“Find her? What makes you think Ven or Boras don’t already have her?”
“That cell was meant for her.”
“Gabriel, I don’t think―”
“Do you have any idea what they will do to a woman like her? She won’t just be a bleeder, having her blood taken from her against her will. She will be a sex slave, sold to the highest bidder, and you can bet that vamp will be a twisted bastard.”
Gabriel’s hands curled into fists, his nails biting into his palms, his arms shaking. Blood dripped from his fists, giving color to the pure snow. His eyes slowly faded to black, his fangs bursting from their sheaths, and hate radiated from his every pore.
He knew exactly what would happen to her once she was in their custody. It would be the same that happened to him centuries ago.
Images of his past clouded his mind. He had been captured in battle, then forced to watch as his enemies cut down his people, burned their village, and repeatedly raped his wife before finally cutting off her head. He had stood proud on the auction block, though his body was scarred and bleeding. Perhaps the scent of fresh, young blood had drawn the sadistic Lady Sideth to him.
